– Hello, thanks for your time. As «Brace for Impact» is your debut album, hope you don’t mind starting with an introduction of the band (when and why did you form it, etc.)

Michael Ehré: Love.Might.Kill is a new band that I´ve started just a few years ago. Beside me on the drums we have Jan Manenti from Italy on vocals, Stefan Ellerhorst and Christian Stöver from Germany on guitars and Jogi Sweers on bass. It all started when I began to work on some demos I had left. I´m constantly also writing in or for other bands like f.e. Metalium. But not everything that I´m writing is fitting into the bands I´m involved so I thought it was about time to start my own new band.

– As I said, «Brace for Impact» is your debut. How does it feel holding it in your hands?

M.E.: It´s unbelievable! We are all very excited about that! Now that we get the first reviews we know that we´ve done something good as the reviews are outstanding! We never expected that. And as I said: it´s my first «own» band for a long time now – so this is very special for me.

– And what are your expectations for the record?

M.E.: Puh…this is hard to tell. To be honest: I really don´t know…What I know is that we got tons of brilliant reviews and that must be people wh
o like our stuff. On the other hand I also know that a newcomer act isn´t selling records anymore. So this is a difficult situation for us. In my opinion it´s the best to have no expectations at all – so you won´t be disappointed in the end, hahaha

– Do you think the fact of being Michael Ehre is a benefit itself in promotion terms?

M.E.: It probably helps a bit but in the end all that matters is the music. If you produce a shit album it doesn´t matter who´s done it. I think I got a more important role by producing the album as I exactly knew what I want and in what direction all this should lead.

– The cover artwork was done by Nikolas Fritz, from MOB RULES. Could you please explain us a bit about it? How was this process like, what does the cover represent, etc.

M.E.: yeah, Nikolas did a fantastic job! I´m very happy to have him onboard – besides that he is a very, very nice guy and an outstanding drummer 😉 The artwork represents in a way the bandname. There is this girl that´s holding the graveyard-stone in front of an endtime-scenario. You can find all three words in that pictures: «Love» as she is holding this stone and try to save him from this scenario, «Might» as she also has the might to do this because she could also don´t care. And «Kill» is related to this endtime-scenario with the destroyed buildings and the world going down. I know it´s very metaphoric but it works 😉

– Most tracks in the album are quite dark. Would you mind tell us what are some of the topis covered on it?

M.E.: You´re one of the very first who understand it! I read in a review that our lyrics are too cheesy!!!! It´s obvious that the guy who wrote that review didn´t had an idea of our lyrics. Just because we have words like «Love» in our lyrics it doesn´t mean that these songs are lovesongs! Most of the tracks deal with some weird and bad things that are going on in our society. But I´d like the listeners to discover the stories so I´d rather don´t get into details now 😉

– Maybe this fits the band’s name?

M.E.: Yes, absolutely. You got it!

– On ther other hand, most song titles lead us to the wrong way, as they don’t seem to reflect the feeling most lyrics provide. Was this something intended?

M.E.: Yes! I´m not a big fan of all this cheesy love lyrics. But I like if you can read something between the lines to discover the meaning behind
the words. I´m really impressed that you did it 😉

– Musically, some tracks could fit into the Hard Rock genre, while others sound more Power, others sound heavier… Though always remain melodic. What bands/music styles have influenced you?

M.E.: We are all influenced by the good old bands like Rainbow, Whitesnake, Judas Priest or Black Sabbath. Not to forget DIO!!! I think we´ve got a good mixture of all these bands in «Brace for impact» without copying them.

– You recently shooted a video for «Pretty Little Mess». Could you please shed some light on this?

M.E.: As we are a new band we needed something to catch the attention of the fans all around the world. We thought that «Pretty Little Mess» was the right track to present all the bands trademarks. So we got a cool powersong with a lot of good melodies and really good solo-guitars! It´s groovy and dynamic and catches you from the first listening – that´s what we hope, hahaha

– Is LOVE.MIGHT.KILL just a project or an established band?

M.E.: It´s definitely no project as we recently played our first shows. For me this is too important! Though we´re just at the beginning and we will have hard times finding our place in the business we are all ready to make it! And all the brilliant reactions show us that we did it right so far. But
you never know what the future brings…we will surley play more shows and do a second record – but that´s all we know at the moment.

– You are quite busy both with FIREWIND and ULI JON ROTH, will there be time to tour with LOVE.MIGHT.KILL?

M.E.: Besides the two mentioned bands I´m also doing a lot of other stuff with different artists and bands. Nowadays it´s not so easy to make a living being a musician. You have to do a lot of stuff to earn your money, especially when you´ve got a family and a house. But that´s okay because I love to work with different people from all over the world – it never gets boring – it´s always exciting! And I will always find the time to continue working on pushing Love.Might.Kill forward. That´s no problem – just a matter of coordination 😉

– The album will be released through Massacre Records. Did the fact METALIUM were working with them too had something to do with this?

M.E.: Absolutely. I know the guys from Massacre Records for more than ten years now. And they know me. So both sides knew what to expect. I´m very glad they believe in Love.Might.Kill!

– And finally, what are the band’s near-future plans?

M.E.: As I said we´re planning to do more shows this years. Maybe we get the chance to tour with a bigger band so we can spread our music to a larger audience. We already have some ideas but it´s too early to tell details. Next year we will start to work on our second album but we don´t have any possible release dates yet.

– That’s all from my side, thanks once again for taking your time. Now feel free to add any some final words to our readers.

M.E.: First of all I´d like to say thank you for your interview! Than I won´t miss to thank all the metalfans that like our music! This really means a lot to us! For all those who haven´t heard our stuff yet: CHECK IT OUT 😉 I hope to see you all on tour soon!
