– Hi, thanks for your time. What are you currently up to? How is everything doing right now with PATHOLOGY?
Hi, right now just been busy with press. Everything has been great! Our new album just came out and I’m happy to have it done and out. Now I’m just taking it easy until it’s time for the next tour.
– You have just released your new album, «The Time of Great Purification». How is its feedback being so far? And what are your expectations on it?
This has been the best response we have ever had. With every album it just seems to grow more and more. I felt this was the bands best release yet, so I was hoping for a good response but you never know.
– The album’s title can be open to different interpretations, but I think it’s strongly connected to the album’s concept so, would you mind to shed some light on it?
What the title meant to me is the end of the world. The title and cover represent that the world will end on Dec 21 2012. The end of the Mayan calendar. I wanted the idea and album out before this date.
– What it caught my attention instantly was how technical this album is. What this something you were looking for?
Not really. This is just how it came out. This album was written with-out my long time guitarist, Tim. Our newest guitarist Kevin and I wrote this new one. That’s why it sounds a little different. Same Pathology but a little more polished.
– Anyway it’s also your heaviest and maybe also your most aggressive opus so, is it easy to blend such apparently opposite elements? As the technical side with the aggresiveness have created a dynamic final result.
For us it is easy yes.
– On the other hand, the overall sound the record has is really organic, specially compared to the production you had on your previous «Awaken to the Suffering». Could you please tell us how was the production process for this new release and what kind of sound were you looking for?
Everything was very similar to the Awaken album. We went in there looking for mostly the same sound and what not. We really focused on the timing and made sure everything is perfectly in time. Once that was locked in, it was very easy. It took me only 2 days to record the drums. I almost did it in one day but I started to get loopy after the 11th song.
– When we interviewed Dave last year he told us you will always go back to the Lambesis Studios with Daniel Castleman so, what makes this team so good and effective for ay PATHOLOGY’s album?
Daniel at the studio just really knows what he is doing. He’s very easy to work with and he is crazy quick. He’s all about getting things perfect which i like a lot. Everything had to be perfect.
– And what about the songwriting process? Does it defer from an album to another?
This album I would have Kevin bring me several riffs and we would just mold them together into a song. I also own a recording studio in my house, so we record all the pre-production stuff here. All the older albums me and Tim would just write on the spot.
– On the other hand, once more Pär Olofsson created the album’s artwork, as he did with your two previous CDs. This is more colorful than the cover for «Awaken to the Suffering», does this have any meaning?
No meaning. The Awaken album was a pencil drawing and this new one was all digital.
– You have already filmed a video for «Tyrannical Decay». How did the shooting go? And do you plan doing any other clips off this record?
It was supper easy. It took abut 4 hours to shoot and like 3 days to edit. We filmed it here in San Diego at Double Time Recording Studio. Its were we recorded all the old Pathology stuff.
– All this about «The Time of Great Purification» being said; how could you describe this new piece in just 3 words?
Brutal as fuck.
– Before wraping this interview up: with which 3 bands you haven’t played with you would like to do it?
Anthrax, Metallica or Iron Maiden.
– And finally, what are your near-future plans?
We will be doing some US tours in 2013 and probably continue the cycle and put a record out every year.
