– Hello, thanks for answering to our questions. How is everything going right now with DEGIAL? How does it feel having your debut album coming out soon?

It feels great, we have waited about a year for this curse to be released and now finally the time has come.

– You are a new band, that’s why I guess some people won’t know about you yet so; could you please make some history of DEGIAL?

Degial was formed in the hidden mist of Uppsala (Sweden) by H. E. R. in 2005 in order to play Death Metal. After the release of our demo tape, “Awakening from darkness”(2006) we received an offer from Blood Harvest Records to release an 7”EP. J. joined our congregation and the force was complete. On July 30th, 2010, “Death and Darkness buries all…”(Blood Harvest) was released. In 2011 we made a covenant with the death dealers of Sepulchral Voice Records and entered Fred Estby´s studio Gutterview Recorders to create our first full-length album named “Death´s Striking Wings”.

– You were originally named DEGIAL OF EMBOS, but changed to just DEGIAL after kicking out your vocalist and bass player. What prompted that? Do you see DEGIAL as a completely different band?

Yes we see it as a completely different band. After we kicked out the members you are talking about we decided to just call it the end of Degial of Embos. The old singer and bass player didn’t share the same view about how Death Metal should be as Me, R and E did. So we three decided to start a new band and just call it Degial. We never played any old songs from Degial of Embos, we started to write new song directly.

– On 2006 you released your first demo and then you signed with Blood Harvest, that released your “Death and Darkness Buries all…” EP. How was that period with that label? As with just one EP you created quite a buzz into the underground.

It work out very well, never any problems, except that the EP got misprinted, but that’s not Blood Harvest fault. it was the printers who fuckt it up. I still think Blood Harvest is a great label and are very pleased that he released our EP.

– And then, last 2011, you signed with Sepulchral Voice for the release of your debut album. How did this arise?

I have always appreciated Sepulchral Voice for their taste of bands that they put out. Bands that have a very dark feeling and do something more than just play metal. Then I meet one of the guys behind the label when I was in Germany, and we kept in contact and decided to work with each other. And I can’t think of any other labels that would fit us better then Sepulchral Voice, they truly understand what Degial is about and really believes in us.

– This debut album is “Death’s Striking Wings”, which will come out in a few days. What are your expectations with it? And are you fully satisfied with the final outcome?

I am totally satisfied, it turned out to become exactly as we wanted it to be.

I think the album will touch a lot of souls, both in a good and a bad way.

I mean, I don’t think that all «death metal» people out there are going to like the album, because I think that the album can be quite strange for some people, because it doesn’t sounds like the other new «death metal» bands that has become popular these days. But that’s also good, We write this music for us. But if some people likes what we do and understand the message, then we are very pleased. They help us to continue and someday complete our mission.

Other life metal posers can just fuck off!

– I could say this record has a strong Death Metal feeling with nuances from Black Metal or even certain Thrash elements so, what could you say are the main musical influences for the band?

All music that I like inspires me, so I can´t say a main influence. I like alot of dark music that I gets inspired by, and most of it isn’t even metal music. But when I create musik I always have Death Metal as my goal, We will never play anything else.

But of course has Black Metal inspired me, I don’t think it’s so big difference between Death and Black metal.

– Moreover I think you are not at all the typical Swedish Death Metal revival band, as it seems you are not closed to just one single style and you also seem to have inspirations from American DM bands like MORBID ANGEL. Could you say this is something that helps you stand out among other Swedish bands into extreme Metal?

I think we stands out because we play real Death Metal. Most of the bands today just copy old bands and dosent even try to do something on there own. To play Death Metal you need something more than just play your instrument. Seek into yourself and try to do something fresh.

– All the songs on the album are really brutal, but I think you also have some interesting melodies. Is this something important for you or planned? Or do things just come up naturally?

We never sits down and decides how a song or a riff should sound or be like. And i wouldn’t say that’s our music comes naturally.. We gets our powers from another world to create what we do.. Nothing is planned.

– The sound on this opus is really dark and filthy, in fact seasoned Fred Estby has taken production duties so, how was this process like? Are you happy with the work done by him?

Yes, We are very pleased to work with him. He totally understands how Death Metal should sound and understands how we wants to have it. And he is very easy to work with. We recorded our EP with him aswell so we knowed before we enterd the studio that it was going to be a great production.

– In fact the whole album is surrounded by a really dark and mysterious atmosphere; is this part of your vision on how Death Metal or DEGIAL should sound like?

Death Metal for us is a hymn to DEATH. Our music is sounds directely from the Abyss. We have always been more interested in bands with a occult image, and when you grow and dig deeper in it with your one life, its no way back. It wouldn’t matter what kind of music we would play. It would be the same darkness behind it.

– Image also seems like an important part of the band; how do you conceive the whole concept of the band? What’s the band for you?

I don know if I would call it a image, Degial is everything we live for. Everything that has something to do with Degial has a meaning, everything that happens live, or on a picture, or a layout. We dont were the clothes we have live becuse it should look «cool» or «brutal». We have it becuse it our call.

– Talking about such; what does the cover artwork represent? And how did you work on it?

The cover represents the titel, lyrics and the music that you can here on the album.

Death´s Striking Wings. We gave the titel to Erik of Trident Arts and he came up with the cover. And it fitted us perfect. as always when he do something for us.

– All this about “Death’s Striking Wings” being said; how could you describe this CD in just 3 words?

DEATH,CHAOS,DARKNESS

– And finally, what the near-future plans are for DEGIAL?

We have some live shows planed, We will play at Hell´s Pleasue in Germany and War & Hate in sweden. And some other shows will come up aswell.

– That has been everything from my side, thanks you once more. If you want to add some final words; last lines are all yours.

Fuck off life, Hail DEATH!
