1- Hello, thanks for answering to our questions. What are you guys currently up to?

Right now, we are rehearsing for the upcoming shows. Being a two-piece we had to find some friends, who wanted to help us out live. And of course we are excited to see the album coming out!

2- First off, could you make some history of the band?

In the end of 2010 Bernd and me sat together and decided to jam a little bit without any plans to record anything or getting a record deal. At that point we didn’t have a place to rehearse regularly and we didn’t have a name either. The Party-San Festival in 2011 was a turning point for us. Autopsy played and Chris Reifert announced the song «Slaughterday», which they had already played, for the second time by mistake. We instantly looked at each other and knew that that’s gonna be our name. A perfect match for us being huge Autopsy fans. But it still took a few months for us to get a place to rehearse on a regular basis. In the end of 2011 we really started to write songs. After having finished one of our rehearsal-songs (Abyss Of Nameless Fear) we set up a bandcamp page and after that posted the information in the forum of the well-known Rock-Hard Magazine. Rico from FDA Rekotz immediately got in touch with us and was excited to hear some more material. So after having heard two more of our rehearsal tracks, he decided to work together with us and offered us a deal, which included the release of a demo tape, which became the 4-track demo-cassette “Cosmic Horror”.

3- How could you describe your sound?

I think it´s Old School Death Metal like in the late 80´s, early 90’s with a little Finnish Doom. Some say that there is a lot of Swedish Death-Metal in it, but we actually don’t think so.

4- What are the band’s main musical influences?

I guess, the influence of Autopsy can not be denied. And of course Massacre, Death, some classic bands like Black Sabbath, Trouble or Pentagram; Finnish Death-Metal like Demilich, but also newer bands like Hooded Menace or Vallenfyre.

5- How is the feedback for your new album being?

The album hasn’t been released yet, but the little reviews we got were overwhelming. We never expected such a resonance, when we started!

6- And are your personally satisfied with the final outcome?

Absolutely! Jörg did a great job again! Besides that he is one of the best engineers I can imagine of. We have known each other for such a long time now, that he immediately knows what to do, playing in front of him in the studio. I was quite nervous of what the result would sound like, especially the guitar sound for we didn’t use the HM2 like we did on “Cosmic Horror”. I´m very satisfied with it listening to it now and I’m really glad to not have made use of the HM2!

7- How could you describe this opus in just 3 words?

Pure Death Metal!

8- How has the production process for your new release been?

Relaxed! That’s the perfect term for it! We had two weeks time to record and mix 13 songs and we managed to do so in 11 days. It’s much better to enter the studio with only two musicians than five, I can tell you! No endless discussions, breaks and beer drinking orgies! It was very efficient!

9- And how do you use to work on the songwriting?

It all starts with a riff, of course. Mostly I create the riffs at home and record them on my eband. After that Bernd and I listen to the riffs during our rehearsals and we decide together, what riff might fit to the current song. Sometimes Bernd just “whistles” a riff, which I try to play, sometimes we just jam and see what happens. The arrangement of all the songs is done by the two of us and I often wonder how we agree musically. The lyrics of course are all done by Bernd.

10 – Finally, what are you near-future plans?

Well, that depends on how the reactions to “Nightmare Vortex” will be like. I guess we will play some shows and start writing new material for the next album.

11- That’s all from our side, thanks again for taking your time to answer our questions. If you now want to add some final words; feel free to do it.

Thank you for your interest in the band! Keep on supporting Old School Death-Metal! The nightmare will continue!!

Slaughterday
