1- Hello, thanks for answering to our questions. What are you guys currently up to?

Hi there, thanks for showing interest in Anguish. Currently we are awaiting our second full length which is called «Mountain» to be released. We recorded it in March this year and the release is set to be 12th November

2- First off, could you make some history of the band?

I (David) and a guy called Jacob started the band in 2007, we wrote a couple of songs and find some members who were interested of joining us. In 2009 we recorded our first demo called «Dawn of Doom». But we were never satisfied with the result of how it become, so we never released it. And soon the other members, except me and our singer J. Dee, lost interest of continuing the band and things were laid on ice. A year later or so I and J. Dee decided to looking for new members. We found Christoffer and Rasmus, and started to rehearse our old material from scratch. In 2010 we recorded the demo «Dawn of Doom» again with a much better result. We pressed it on tape by ourselves, about 100ex. A record label called Skeleton Plague Records found us on Myspace and was willing to release the demo on Pro-tape. At the end he was never available to sign of but fixed a contract with his friend instead, Matt from Dark Descent Records. And so our journey began.

3- How could you describe your sound?

From the beginning with the old members, we wanted to sound like bands like Candlemass, Trouble and Pentagram. With clear vocals and heavy riffing. But after a time, we changed the vocals to a more death metal style. So now we sounds like a typical Doom band musically but with harsh vocals

4- What are the band’s main musical influences?

Nowadays we take inspirations from a lot of different genres. Everything we think sounds cool, like Candlemass, Autopsy, Sabbat (jap), Mayhem, Asphyx, Krux, old classic composers like Gustav Holst, But also mysterious places like for an example an abandoned mine in the woods near the area where we live (same place as we took our first photos for the Dawn of Doom demo), siugnah, the moon and the planets are a big inspiration too.

5- How is the feedback for your new album being?

Our new album «Mountain» is not released yet. For our first full length we got mostly positive feedback so far I could see. The only bad i’ve read was some complaints about the artwork, and some other dudes didn’t like the harsh vocals. But we’re satisfied with the feedback so far.

6- And are your personally satisfied with the final outcome?

I’m personally are more satisfied with «Mountain» than «Through The Archdemon’s Head» because I think there is much more dynamic on Mountain and also the riffs and the songs overall are better. But I am however satisfied with both our full-lengths.

7- How could you describe this opus in just 3 words?

Uppsala Doom Metal

8- How has the production process for your new release been?

It has gone very smooth. I think that some of the tracks on «Mountain» was written right after the recording of «Through The Archdemon’s Head» We had a little paus after that recording session but started to rehearse new Material just a few month later. When «Through The Archdemon’s Head» were released we started to rehearse that album again to prepare for some gigs we had. A year after the first recording session we called our producer and booked a new studio time i March this year. Once in the studio, we were well prepared, and knew exactly how we wanted the album to sound like and our producer Johan Ericson from Draconian really likes doom metal so he is a great guy to discuss ideas together with. I think it took us seven days to finish up the album.

9- And how do you use to work on the songwriting?

J. Dee writes all the lyrics, and I writes all the music. The songwriting process has usually been that I show J. Dee a new song, he listen to it and the ideas for a new lyrics comes to him naturally. Or in some cases he just writes a bunch of texts, listen to my new songs, and choose which text fits best with which song

10 – Finally, what are you near-future plans?

Hopefully after «Mountain» are released 12th November we hope to get some gigs so we can spread our doom further to the world with our live rituals. And besides that I always have new stuffs going on with my guitar At the moment I have two new songs which I wrote after «Mountain» was recorded, so hopefully there will be a third full-length maybe 2015 or 2016. Before that maybe we will release something small like a singel or a split, who knows.

11- That’s all from our side, thanks again for taking your time to answer our questions. If you now want to add some final words; feel free to do it.
