1- Hello, thanks for answering to our questions. What are you guys currently up to?

Hello there and thank you for your interest. We are currently on a small national tour in Denmark along with our label-brothers, Corpus Mortale. Both we and Corpus Mortale released new albums this year, so the tour is promoting these new albums. Other than this we are planning to start writing some new material during this forthcoming winter season.

2- First off, could you make some history of the band?

Well, the band is quite old. Peter and Allan started the band back in 1995-1996 as a high school cover band, but a couple of years later we started writing our own material. In 2000 our first EP «To Cross the Sunless Waters» was released and in 2001 our second EP «Immigrant Species» came out. Both EP’s were self-financed and no label was involved in the process. Then there came some years with some changes in the line-up, we wrote a lot of new material but because of the many changes in the band (mainly a steady drummer seemed hard to find) we didn’t record any of this other than on some demo recordings for our own amusement. The next thing that happened was that we finally in 2009 released our first debut album «Cocoon of Denial». Again we financed it ourselves, still no label involved. Soon after its release our current drummer Jonas left and moved to Sweden, so we once again were in need of a drummer. But luckily we soon hooked up with Nikolaj (Kjaergaard), and started recording some new songs for a promo EP. The goal was to get a record deal and release our first «real» album worldwide. After recording the EP, we soon got approached by Deepsend Records, with whom we ultimately decided to sign contract. From here on we recorded the album «The Sovereign», had the very talented Mircea G. Eftemie (also guitarist of Mnemic) do the cover artwork and sent it abroad to USA. And now the album has finally been released!

3- How could you describe your sound?

We strive to express a brutal and ferocious sound with this new album of ours. Yet it also holds a lot of good lead guitar melodies, which really influence the overall sound and sometimes moves the sound towards some of the classic Swedish death metal bands. We really do try to mix all our personal favorite aspects of death metal as we see it. In our opinion, some of the most compelling death metal bands have both catchy but sinister melodies, grind parts and also good groovy parts – and of course really evil vocals!

4- What are the band’s main musical influences?

Over all you can say that everyone in the band is a big fan of some of the older classic death metal bands such as Suffocation, Morbid Angel, Nile, Death etc. Our lead guitarist, Allan, who comes up with nearly every single riff we have ever written is also a huge fan of melodic metal such as Nevermore, and you can actually hear some Jeff Loomis influence in many of his solos on the album. We also like some of the more brutal kinds of death metal such as Cattle Decapitation. Our vocalist, Kasper, has recently been really surprised and inspired by Russian slamming death metal kings, Abominable Putridity, concerning death metal vocals.

5- How is the feedback for your new album being?

The feedback for «The Sovereign» has been overwhelmingly amazing! Our fans have been waiting a really long time for this new material to be released, and many of them are perfectly happy with the outcome, so that is really awesome! Also a lot of the reviews we have received so far have been above all expectation. We knew that we created a fairly solid release, but to experience reviewers rating the album 9/10 and 10/10 is just unreal. Some reviewers even mention that it’s «album of

the year» in their book, which we definitely didn’t expect when we started out recording this album.

6- And are your personally satisfied with the final outcome?

We think that the final outcome over all is really satisfying. There is almost always something you would maybe tweak or change looking back on your creation in retrospect as the artist. But I must say that we really like the sound that Jacob Olsen (producer) managed for this album. Also I believe that the songs of «The Sovereign» as a death metal album holds a lot of aspects that most death metal fans would recognize. It is definitely the best piece of art that we have ever created.

7- How could you describe this opus in just 3 words?

Brutal, fast, groovy and atmospheric. Sorry, that was four words.

8- How has the production process for your new release been?

We recorded the drums at JBO Sound near Aarhus in Denmark during the first 3 days. Prior to that we had recorded all the guitar and bass tracks ourselves digitally back home. So we just sent Jacob Olsen the files and they were ready to be re-amped in the studio. We then recorded the vocals there and then we were pretty much ready to head in to the mixing process. The further correspondence was handled by e-mail as we tried to find the desired sound. The record was also mastered by Jacob Olsen. The entire production of the record took about 3 months.

9- And how do you use to work on the songwriting?

As mentioned before, it is mainly Allan who writes all the guitar riffs. We then meet at our rehearsal room and try to build up a song structure from some of Allan’s riffs, and Nikolaj come up with some fitting basic drum patterns. When we have the full song structure done we record it and go home and listen to it to evaluate. We then use the next couple of weeks to adjust details or changes in the structure. When we believe the instrumental parts are done, Kasper concludes the work by developing a lyrical theme and vocal patterns plus writing the actual lyrics.

10 – Finally, what are you near-future plans?

As mentioned earlier, when we finish our current national tour we will initiate a writing process for some new even more crushing material with perhaps a little different style of death metal than that of «The Sovereign». I think we will work a lot more on dynamics and speed on some of the new stuff.

11- That’s all from our side, thanks again for taking your time to answer our questions. If you now want to add some final words; feel free to do it.

We would like to say thank you to everyone who shows interest in Ferocity and a huge thanks you to everyone who has bought our new record or shown up at our concerts! STAY BRUTAL!!! \m/
