INNOCENT ROSIE – Bad Habit Romance
Innocent Rosie es otro grupo de Sleaze sueco, y es que parece que, últimamente, la casa del Sleaze y Punk Rock se encuentra únicamente en Suecia, con grupos abanderados como Loud N’ Nasty, Crashdïet, Hardcore Superstar… ¿realmente es necesario mencionar alguno más? Pero, aunque sean compatriotas y toquen Rock cañero y pegadizo no son igual que las bandas que acabo de nombrar, ya que parecen más influenciados por el Hard Rock americano de los 80. Como bien dijeron en Classic Rock: "su sonido es equivalente a un montón de bandanas desteñidas, como los roadies de Skid Row en una pelea con navajas contra los camellos de GNR".

Como bien dijeron en Classic Rock: «su sonido es equivalente a un montón de bandanas desteñidas, como los roadies de Skid Row en una pelea con navajas contra los camellos de GNR».
Y sin ir más lejos, en más de una ocasión me han recordado, especialmente en algunos coros, a aquellos lejanos Skid Row de Sebastian Bach y la influencia de Guns N’ Roses era más que evidente incluso antes de escuchar el disco, y es que cualquier grupo Sleaze que se precie no puede dejar de haber bebido del «Appetite for Destruction», el primer disco y la primera banda del llamado Sleaze de la historia.
Comenzando con una breve introducción al grupo, la alineación está formada por Oscar Kaleva a la voz, Joel Eliasson a la guitarra, Bejamin Boräng a la batería y Olof Oljelund a las cuatro cuerdas. Empezaron en el año 2005 en su ciudad natal, Varbeg, aunque cada uno de ellos es de una parte distinta de Suecia. Rápidamente giraron tanto por Europa como por América, incluso tocaron en el mítico Whisky A Go Go de Los Ángeles. En junio de 2008, con una demo bajo el brazo, grabaron un vídeo para «Knock me Out», de hecho fue su primer vídeo pero no supuso ningún inconveniente para que, en seguida, se convirtiera en uno de los más vistos (y a día de hoy continúa siéndolo) de aquel año en MySpaceTv. Tras volver a casa después de girar por Estados Unidos, en agosto de ese mismo año se metieron en el estudio para empezar a grabar el disco del que hoy hablamos, «Bad Habit Romance».
Lo cierto es que tenía muchas ganas de recibir promos de Swedmetal y me alegró especialmente saber que me iban a enviar ésta después de haber leído todas las reseñas buenas que ha tenido el disco. Me sorprendía leer críticas alabando tanto a un CD de un estilo que parece estar tan explotado últimamente en Suecia, por lo que éso hizo crecer especialmente mi interés… ¡realmente tenía que ser un buen álbum! Un éxito pocas veces visto debe ser por algo.
Y ahora, después de darle varias escuchas… No es para menos ¡Qué variedad ¡Qué producción! ¡Qué coros! Lo cierto es que todavía no sé por dónde empezar, tan sólo decir que, a estas alturas, a pesar de ser este mi estilo predilecto, no me esperaba algo nuevo ni que me sorprendiera aunque fuera un poco, pero parece ser que estaba bastante equivocada.
Me esperaba otros Crashdïet, tras el bombazo en 2005 han salido muchas bandas intentando imitarles e intentando conseguir el éxito que ellos tuvieron, pasando todas muy desapercibidas. También me esperaba otros Crazy Lixx, que igual que Innocent Rosie, tuvieron mucha repercusión cuando editaron «Loud Minority» y recibieron muy buenas críticas (y más que merecidamente). Pero no, éstos chicos son, simplemente, ellos. Aunque si hay que hacer comparaciones serían más similares a Crazy Lixx por su influencia y sonido más ochentero.
Ya lo he dicho, pueden recordar bastante a Skid Row o Guns N Roses principalmente, pero temas como «Sextalkin'» nos hacen ver que también son unos seguidores de los Crüe, teniendo un comienzo muy Mötley, así como el medio tiempo, «Shine, Shine, Shine» podría pertenecer a Cinderella o Britny Fox, sinceramente me recuerda bastante al principio de su tema «Girlschool». De este noveno corte, «Shine, Shine, Shine» también hay que destacar el solo de guitarra, lo cierto es que le da a todo el tema un aire bastante sureño.
Algunas baterías recuerdan bastante, de nuevo, a Guns N’ Roses, como las típicas utilizadas en «Paradise City» que ahora parecen típicas e imprescindibles en cualquier disco del género y en algunos temas también incluyen una armónica muy rollo Hanoi Rocks (salvando las distancias, claro, pero un elemento tan característico de los fineses no puede dejar de recordarnos a ellos cuando alguien más lo utiliza en su música). Otro aporte innovador son algunos coros, especialmente en el tema que abre el redondo, «Bitter Cocktail», posiblemente el más completo y más animado y con un solo de guitarra que, simplemente, me emociona (cuando yo nunca he sido una gran amante de ningún tipo de solos… ¡y estoy hablando estrictamente de música!) Sin lugar a dudas, una buena forma de abrir el álbum y dejarte completamente enganchado a él. Éso unido al que le sigue, el gran y devastador (estamos hablando de Rock, no de Brutal Death) «Knock me out», al escucharlo sabréis por qué cosecharon tantos éxitos con aquel vídeo. Un no parar de fiesta y rock n’ roll electrizante. Este CD es tan fácil como esa música que te anima el cuerpo y el ánimo en cualquier momento.
El tercer tema, «Animal», es otro gran tema necesario de resaltar, con un aire muy rock n’ rollero de película de Tarantino o Rockabilly, como prefiráis; también me recuerda, en ocasiones, al mítico «Babylon» de Faster Pussycat. Incluyen un teclado que le da todavía más una atmósfera de Rock N’ Roll 50’s.
Cada tema tiene nuevas adiciones y son todos distintos entre ellos, lo cual es una muy buena receta para no hacerse monótono. Para ser sincera, no sé cuántas veces he retocado esta crítica, cada vez que escuchaba un tema de nuevo encontraba elementos nuevos, c
omo que las guitarras suenan bastante a Blues y la voz puede recordar a los mejores tiempos de Jon Bon Jovi. Sinceramente, no podrían tener mejores influencias.
La producción en este caso es muy clara y más que correcta, aunque en este estilo una producción más sucia tampoco le hubiera ido mal, pero éstos chicos cuidan absolutamente todo en su música, hasta el último detalle.
Resumiendo; un discazo. Además Innocent Rosie creo que con este «Bad Habit Romance» han dejado muy claro quiénes son, por qué están dónde están y por qué su primer larga duración ha tenido una acogida de tales magnitudes. No intentan imitar a nadie, ni en su música, ni en su voz, y ni si quiera en su imagen. Actualmente estamos acostumbrados a que este tipo de bandas, y compatriotas suyos, tengan un estereotipo estético bastante marcado, pero los chicos de la banda lo rompen con una imagen más que sencilla y, por lo que tenemos visto, poco habitual en su estilo. Parece que quieren decir que lo que realmente importa es la música, y en este caso tienen razón… ¡porque vaya música!
Espero que sigan tan bien cómo han empezado. Ahora realmente entiendo por qué toda la prensa les ha tratado tan bien y todo el éxito que han tenido. Ojalá les dure mucho tiempo porque éso será una buena señal para los que disfrutamos de este debut.

Innocent Rosie is another band of Swedish Sleaze and it seems that lately th Sleaze and Punk Rock home finds its location only in Sweden, with some bands that embody this scene such as Loud N’ Nasty, Crashdïet, Hardcore Superstar… is it really necessary tu name any other bands? But, perhaps they’re compatriots and play sugarcane and sticky Rock they’re not like the other bands I have just named, since they seem more influenced by 80’s American Hard Rock. As they well said at Classic Rock: «Their sound is an equal amount of bleach and bandanas, sorta like Sid Row’s roadies in a knife fighting with GNR’s drug dealers».
And for instance, in more than one occasion they have reminded me, specially at some background vocals, to those far Sebastian Bach’s Skid Row and the Guns N’ Roses influence it was more than obvious even before listening to the CD, and is it that any Sleaze band it can’t stop drinking of «Appetite for Destruction», the first album and the first band of the history of the named Sleaze.
Starting with a brief introduction to the band, the line-up is formed by Oscar Kaleva (voice), Joel Eliasson (guitar), Bejamin Boräng (drums) and Olof Oljelund (bass). They started at 2005 at their natal city, Varberg, but every of them is from a different part of Sweden. Short after the toured both Europe both America, even they played at the mythical Whisky A Go Go from Los Angeles. In june 2008, with just a demo, they recorded a video for their «Knock me Out», in fact it was their very first video but it not supposed any inconvenient for become, realy soon, one of the most (and nowadays it’s still being it) of that year at MySpaceTv. After coming back home after touring the Stated, in August of the same year they entered the studio to start recording the album we talk about today, «Bad Habit Romance».
The truth is that I was really looking forward to getting promos from Swedmetal and it made me speacilly happy when I saw it was this one after reading all the good reviews the album has got. It surprised me reading so good reviews praising that much a record of a style it seems to be so operated lately in Sweden, so that made increase specially mi interest… It really has to be a great album! A succes a few times seen must be for something.
And now, after giving to them sveral listening… and with a good reason. Whatr variety! What production! What background vocals! the truth is that I still don’t know how to start, just say that, at this point, even though this is my favourite style, I didn’t expect anything new nor able to surprise even a little, but it seems I was quite wrong.
I expected other Crashdïet, since the bombhsell on 2005 have been a lot of bands pretending to imitate them and pretending to botain the same success they had, most of them passing unnoticed. I also expected other Crazy Lixx, that as Innocent Rosie had a lot of repercussion when they released «Loud Minority» and got really good reviews (and more than deservedly). But no, hese guys are just them. Though if we have to make comparisons they could be more similar to Crazy Lixx thanks to their more 80’s influence and sound.
I have already said it, they can remind a bit to Skid Row or Guns N’ Roses mainly, but tracks as «Sextalkin'» make us see that they’re a Crüe followers, having a starting so Mötley, just like the mid-tempo «Shine, Shine, SHine» could belong to a Cinderella or Britny Fox album, sincerelly, it specially remind me the beginning of their song «Girlschool». Of this ninth track, «Shine, Shine, Shine» I have also to emphasize the guitar solo, the truth is that it givis the whole track a southern aire.
Some drums remind to, again, Guns N Roses, as the tipically used at «Paradise City» that now seem to be tipical and indispensable at any album of the genre and some songs also include an harmonica, quite Hanoi Rocks vibrations (In spit of all the differences, of course, but a so characteristic elemnt of the Finnish it cvan’t stop reminding us to them when someone else uses it in their music). Another innovative contribution are some background vocals, specially in the track that opens the album, «Biiter Cocktail», possibly the most complete and most lively and with a guitar solo that just, touches me (when I have never been a huge lover of any kind of solos) Without any doubt, a good way to start a CD and leave you absolutely sticked to it. That united to the one that follows it, the great and devastating «Knock me Out», at listening to it you’ll know why they achieve such success with that video. A non-stoping of
party and thrilling Rock N’ Roll. This record it’s so easy as that music that animated your body and mind at any moment.
The third track, «Animal» is another great song that need to be emphasized, with a touch so rock n’ roller of a tarantino film or Rockabilly, as you prefer; it also remind me, sometimes, to the mythical «Babylon» by Faster Pussycat. They include a keyboard that gives to it an atmosphere even more Rock N’ Roll 50’s.
Every song has new additions and are all different between them, which is a really good recipe for not being monotone. To be honest, I don’t know how many times I have editted this review, every time I heared a song once again I found new elements, as the guitars that sound kinda Blues and th voice that can remind to he best Jon Bon Jovi’s times. Honestly, they cannot have better influences.
The production in this case is really clear and more than correct, thought in this kind of music a more rough production would fit good as well, but this guys care absolutely everything in their music, till the last detail.
To sum up; a kick as
s album. As well I think Innocent Rosie, with this «Bad Habit Romance», have clared up who they are, why are they were they are and why their first full-length has recieved a welcome of such magnitude. They don’t try to imitate anybody, not in their music, nor voice and not even at their image. Nowadays we’re used to this kind of bands, and comptratiots of them, to have a aesthetic stereotype quite marked, but the guys of the band break this with looks more than simple (but always showing their identity) and, for we are used to see, a bit unusual at their style. It seems like they want to explain that what really matters is the music, and in this case they’re correct… because what music!
I hope they continue as good as they have started. Now I really understand why the whole Rock press has trated that good and all the success they got. Hope this will keep too long because that will be a good sign for the ones we enjoy their debut.
