1- Hello, thanks for answering to our questions. What are you guys currently up to?
For the time being we are preparing the release of our next album “Among the Dead”, while slowly starting to prepare a setlist for upcoming liveshows, which will be in September following the release. Also we are preparing for a musicvideo to be shot, which will take place ultimo July.

2- First off, could you make some history of the band?
I think this should be the short version, otherwise I could fill out the whole interview with this point. Well, we started out in the middle of the nineties being in school and started to play metalcovers together. But it was really first when we finished school, that the band became more serious, as in starting to make demos. At that time we were called Misery, but later changed our name to Decades of Darkness along with the music getting more aggressive. In 1998 however Martin re-discovered his love for powermetal, and the rest of us went along to make more melodic stuff in the vein of Helloween, Rage and Blind Guardian. Therefore changing our name to Iron Fire as we thought it more suitable for this kind of music. The same year we recorded our first demo under the Iron Fire moniker, which gave us a recorddeal on Noise Records. We recorded two albums on that company, and thereafter being sacked by a company who seemed to prepare for the global future of music. Nevertheless. Martin didn’t quit but found new musicians and recorded “Revenge”, which marked a return to the original style of Iron Fire, after a short rendezvous into various hard rock influenced material. Iron Fire now got signed bu Napalm Records a company on which we released five albums. The last one being “Voyage of the Damned” that introduced a slightly different sound- and concept than previous albums. This album however marked the end of the cooporation with Napalm Records. Nowadays Iron Fire have signed with Crime Records on which “Among the Dead” will be the first full album release.

3- How could you describe your sound?
Our sound is not that easy to describe because it alters a bit from album to album. On this new album for instance, we have tried to make our sound more raw and less epic than on previous album, as well as the album being totally cleansed for keyboards, autotune and quantization. But if I should name some trademarks in the Iron Fire sound, it will be melody – our sound is always melodic, no matter how hard we are pushing our music, the melody stays in focus. I would also mention heavyness. It’s very important for us that the music is heavy and powerfull.

4- What are the band’s main musical influences?

Group 1 small
Our influences are really different from every person within the band, we all have very different influences and ways of thinking music. Just as well as we have different favorite bands- and albums. Just like that every album has a different approach, which means that we listened to different things from time to time. However, I think that bands like Running Wild, Rage, Metallica, Nevermore, Iced Earth, Helloween and Pantera will always be present somewhere in our music. And if I should say something about the inspiration for “Among the Dead”, I’ll definitely would mention an album like “Black in Mind” by Rage and probably also “Better Than Raw” by Helloween. We were listening to those albums non-stop when they came out.

5- How is the feedback for your new album being?
Well no one has really heard the album yet, as far as I know, so there’s a bit of excitement among fans who are really dedicated, and many have waited for a new album for years. So it’s nice to finally give something back in return for this long wait.

6- And are your personally satisfied with the final outcome?
Well, yeah –  I am more or less satisfied with the result. There’s always things that you wish you have done differently, but I’d say that we actually got what we came for – so to speak. We wanted to make an album with a nineties vibe. We wanted it to be simple, catchy, raw and bursting with energy. So we wrote the songs fast, rehearsed them a few times and recorded them fast. So everything went quite smooth and quite quick. And for the fist time, I actually think that Iron Fire has made an album with a really heavy sound – it’s not as nice and epic as the previous albums. So this time it’s definitely safe to call the music power metal, cause there’s quite some power on this new one – and speed too. I think it’s the fastest album Iron Fire has ever released.

7- How could you describe this opus in just 3 words?
Heavy, melodic and powerfull.

8- How has the production process for your new release been?
The production process was really smooth and quite satisfying. We never rehearsed very much. I think the entire band was gathered two times before the recording started. Everything was prepared by each of us separately before entering the studio. Me and Kirk did rehearse the songs a few times, using the pre-production as the outset. The pre-production was made over two sessions, where Martin wrote almost everything and send it to me and Kirk, who put our mark on it. However me and Kirk did co-write one song for the album. So we spent about six months to prepare and write the songs before going to the studio to record the basic tracks. Only vocals and solos were not done at the basic tracks session.

10 – Finally, what are you near-future plans?
Play some shows, drink some beers, write new music…

11- That’s all from our side, thanks again for taking your time to answer our questions. If you now want to add some final words; feel free to do it.
I have one plea to people out there. Go and buy the music to support the artists. If you don’t the music will degenerate. If you stream the album and you like what you hear, go and buy the album. Otherwise there might not be another one…
…thank you for listening
