– Hello Steve, thanks for answering to our questions. What’s currently going on into the band’s camp?

Thanks for having me. We are preparing to do some warmup shows before we tour from May-July. We just released a video for Caged In that you can see on Youtube, Facebook and our website, www.lillianaxe.com We are very excited about the response to the new album.

– You have recently released your latest “XI: The Days Before Tomorrow”. How’s been its feedback like?

The feedback has been great. I personally feel this is our best record to date. The band is very solid and unified and this record will please all fans from the new ones to the ones who have been with us from the start.

– You have always had strong lyrics that have made you stand out from most bands into the genre. What do lyrics deal with this time around?

The lyrical content is very deep and thought provoking. The ideas I have set into motion are applicable to anyone’s life experiences and can be interpreted in many ways depending on the listener’s heart and soul. Every song, no matter what the specific topic, deals with the human experience and the moments in our lives that fuel and spark our emotions. The basic message is the triumph of the good over the evil, the strong hearted over the inconsiderate, and the power of love. Each song has a unique story, yet the underlying message is always about the beauty and strength of the human eternal soul.

– It also stands out you haven’t been playing over and over the same thing, reproducing what you did in the 80’s. You are constantly evolving and adding new things to your music, is this something important both for the band and yourself as an artist?

It is very important that we continue to grow and excite our fans with new and powerful music that explores new ground but still maintains those elements that people expect and love from us such as the dynamic, the harmonies, the melodies and the intensity.

– In fact I could say you now have more progressive elements. Was this a conscious choice?

Honestly, nothing is intentional. We are a result of the chemistry of the 5 individuals in the band coming together and performing as a unit bringing their individual perspective to the mix.

– Anyway, what could you say are the main differences between this new “XI: The Days Before Tomorrow” and your previous “Sad Day on Planet Earth”?

I think Days before Tomorrow is another page in our journey. Stylistically it is a bit heavier but Sad Day was very diverse and hypnotic. I think the sounds on this new album are the best to date. It is sonically very very powerful and the band played amazingly. I am blessed to have such great talent in this band.

– I could say this new effort is one of your most complete, solid and diverse records so far but, what are your thoughts on its final result?

I agree with you 100%. There was something very magical and supernatural about this record and the process. There is so much that goes into making a record from start to finish that people don’t realize, and this whole process seemed to just fall perfectly into place with a smoothness that was divinely inspired.

– Yourself took production duties, does this give you more freedom or more work and pressure?

More freedom AND more pressure. Yes, the pressure is a good pressure though. As a producer, I have to bring out the best performances from the band. We have been together so long that I know how to do that. These guys are pros. I have worked with many musicians, and Eric, Sam, Brian and Ken are amazing. Sometimes, I take for granted how good they are.

– It seems like you have been cursed with singers, and this time around you got a new one: Brian Jones. How’s everything going with him?

Not cursed at all. We have a long history. Every rock band in the world, or I should say 95%, have had changes. Ron Taylor was great and a blessing. So was Derrick. They moved on in life, so we brought in Brian who is fantastic. When you have 23 years of history, changes will occur, but the essence of Lillian Axe will never change.

– This has also been your first album with AFM Records after having some trouble throughout these years of existence for the band with some of your labels. Are you satisfied by the work done by them so far?

Yes. AFM has done a great job so far. We have been through several label situations over the years. Some didn’t work out due to economical reasons and some were just downright incompetent. We look forward to a great future with AFM.

– Now that I’ve mentioned that about the record label, I think you have always been a really underrated band. What do you think is the main reason behind this? Maybe a promotion thing?

Yes we have always been considered a highly underrated band. We are considered in some ways as having a cult-like status. I dont know why. Possibly due to the lack of support from labels in the past. Lillian Axe has always been the underdog, but we realize that our fans are very special and unique and different from the norm.

– And finally, what are your near-future plans?

We will do warmup shows in the next 2 months and then tour the states from May-July. Then we go to Europe from August- October. In the meantime I will be writing for the next album!

– That has been everything from my side, thank you once more for your time. If you now want to add some final words, last lines are all yours

Thanks so much to you and all the fans worldwide! Stay tuned for tourdates at www.lillianaxe.com! See you on Facebook and Twitter as well! Keep the Faith!
