– Hello, lots of thanks for answering our interview. How is everything going into the TRISTANIA’s camp right now?

Hi!! You are more than welcome! Everything is fine and we feel very proud of this new album Darkest White, we are all very excited about the release, we feel also quite confident that our fans will love it!

– You will soon release your new album, «Darkest White» so, what are your expectations on it?

My personal expectations are quite positive, I find the whole album very appealing and I am sure we will have great responses.

– «Darkest White» is a pretty expressive album’s title, and I think it can be open to different interpretations but, what meaning does it hold to you? Why did you pick it as the new album’s title?

Our drummer came up with the title of the album, we all liked it very much, there is not a set key to read the meaning, this is left to an open interpretation, in fact it could represent a dark moment where still u can see a glimpse of hope, or the attraction for a human being to imaginaries that are caused by drug s addiction, the light at the end of a tunnel and so on.

– This is your second album with the same line-up of «Rubicon» so, how things been easier this time around?

We have found a balance in my opinion, we have a solid relationship both personally and as musicians – which is quite rare nowadays, so I guess this make us feel more comfortable in sharing something important like music.

– For instance it seems like you feel really comfortable, selfconfident and are specially diverse on the record…

In the beginning i had to follow the rules, I just could t show that power you hear in ‘Darkest White’ cause it was a bit too much respect the operatic voice. I am very confident in my singing in general, but joining this band I had to walk between two lines in the first album, find a compromise.

– This fits perfectly the music on the album, as «Darkest White» is, as always, a really diverse album and full of different contrasts. How important are constrasts for TRISTANIA? Could you say is a way to keep things fresh and interesting?

Yes, you said that. Contrast is been always typical in Tristania, no one of the albums sound the same, and I think the band feels very proud of it too. We just don’t like to repeat ourselves.

– You mix melodic Metal, nuances from extreme Metal, even some Industrial touches… Due to this, if you don’t mind, I would like to know what have been some of the most influential bands for TRISTANIA, or for this new opus.

Well, everybody in Tristania listen to different music, I cannot really say…but for sure Moonspell, My Dying Bride, Anathema, Mastodon, and more…

– «Rubicon» was also really diverse, and it was the first album where the whole band was involved with the creative process so, how has this process been this time?

I would say much easier, because we knew how to work together, with Rubicon it has been a kind of experiment, but with this album we almost knew what to expect from each other.

– I’d even day say this is, probably, your fastest and more aggressive record to date. Was this something you were aiming for or was it rather a natural evolution?

We felt we had to go that way since Tristania live has really changed and since I joined the band. I think we got into the `in your face´-vibe, so more confident on stage and meaning every single song with expression and feelings.

– Anyway all your albums have always been different and have their own personality, but all of them have a common thread, so to speak, maybe the overall atmosphere. Where do you draw inspiration from to create such huge ambiences? Do you really focus on them or do you just let things flow naturally?

It depends, I guess if you come up with a melody or a riff, then the rest comes up naturally, you cannot force yourself in such things. You have to be confident that it is what you like and not something mechanical. We all collaborate in this intense experience thinking that it can be accessible for other souls too.

– All this about «Darkest White» being said; how could you describe it in just 3 words?

Dark. Powerful. Energetic.

– And finally, what are your near-future plans?

First we are going to enjoy when the album will be released, then we will work on our live acts, and then we will be just ready to go!

– That’s all, thank you once more for answering our questions. If you want to add some final words; feel free to do it.

Thank you from the heart! I always enjoy answering to good questions regarding our music, and I feel very grateful to all that reading will be inspired to buy our new album Darkest White!! See you soon! Mariangela.
