15 years of Queens of Steel: Adam Lindmark

– We Queens of Steel have been annoying people for 15 years now. During these years a lot of albums have been released. What albums do you specially remember or are your favourites of these last 15 years? Those you have pretty much worn.

Oh shit, remembering what happened in 15 years is HARD! Basically, my entire music taste has developed during that time.
Some that flies into my mind (in no particular order):
Imperial State Electric – Reptile Brain Music
Condor – Unstoppable Power
Autopsy – Tourniquets, Hacksaws and Graves
Hällas – Excerpts from a future past
Nekromantheon – Rise Vulcan Spectre
Horisont – Second Assault

-Even some new bands have born. Which ones are your favourites?
Well, to be honest; even though I love, and mostly listen to old music, I can’t really say that any of the older crew has done anything EXCEPTIONAL the last 15 years, except for Iron Maiden, who I think has released only great albums since “Brave New world”. Therefore, I think my list of new bands are pretty much the same as my list of great albums above.

-And the split up you regret the most?
When The Hellacopters played their last show in 2008, I got filmed for national television while crying in the front row, so that was a pretty emotional experience. Otherwise I wish In Solitude and Condor would still play. Seems like they had more in them to give.

-All of us tend to attend gigs, festivals… During 15 years we’ve spent a lot of time in airports, trains, cars (and getting shitfaced). What is the show or festival you recall with special affection?
Awww, too many to mention! Really, one of the things that keep me doing this stuff, is the IMMENSE amounts of fun you actually get to have on the road, whether it is to play a show with Chris Reifert from Autopsy, soundcheck-jamming Cat Scratch Fever with Midnight, being on stage playing Thin Lizzy with Imperial State Electric, having a Van Halen-pre-show-party with Danko Jones, or getting to have friends in pretty much every city around Europe and partying with them everytime you’re around. There’s no other way I’d prefer to spend my time.

-They are a lot of years if you think about it. Which would be your most memorable moment(s)? A milestone or achievement, on a personal and/or musical level.
Some shows of course stand out, none mentioned, none forgotten, but mostly my most important realization is when I noticed that people out in the world ACTUALLY care about the music that we’re making, in the same way that I, as a huge music nerd, care about other bands. That is a truly humbling feeling, at the same time it feels so insane that somebody, somewhere, puts on a record that I have helped create, either because they have a great day and wanna rock hot shit balls, or because their day has SUCKED, and they need something to escape with. That’s an insane thought!

-Everything evolves (involutes sometimes) with time, so does the Metal «community». What do you believe has been the biggest change the Metal scene has experience or is experiencing during this time? For the better or for the worse.
The Metal scene is great, because it is relentless. It doesn’t budge to trends the same way everything else does, or at least, less than other scenes. You have some of the best and most dedicated fans, who are willing to base their entire existence upon Metal, and I think that’s hard to find in any other genre.
But Metal has always flirted, or been too lenient with xenophobic or intolerant ideas. And since Metal has nothing to do with these ways of thinking, I think now, more than ever, it’s important for everybody in Metal who don’t share these views, to make a stand against them.
Metal is anti-establishment, it’s about expression, it’s about free will. It is, however, not about being a fucking idiot.

-Looking to the future, what would be the best possible scenario for you if you think about the next 15 years?
If I can keep playing music in 15 years, at ANY level, I’ll be (in the words of Jackson Browne) a happy Idiot. If I’m not playing, but still keep the enthusiasm I have today about music in general. I’d still be very happy. If you’d ask me 15 years ago where I’d think my life would be, and I got to see what I’m doing now, I’d probably be equal measures horrified and absolutely thrilled! I hope it will be the same for me in 15 years.
