– Hello, thanks for answering to our questions. What are you currently up to?

You’re welcome – Right now I’m very busy, still have a lot of promotion things to do, but otherwise just to get drunk ! Ha ha

– I’ve read your career started when you performed at the “Scenen er Din” show on the Danish TV. Rock fans don’t use to be really open-minded toward programs like that. Do you think this has supposed any kind of problem to your or rather the opposite?

First of all.. I was just a kid, and the talent show has nothing to do with what I’m doing today. It’s just something that i will look back at as a cool experience ! It was actually not my idea to attend the show .. It was my mom who sent one of my old demo tapes in to the production company back in 2006! And then I got selected out of 12,000 applications!! So I took the chance and I said yes to appear on the show, and ended up in a second place ! – That was really a cool experience.. especially for a 14 year old kid !

– And how and why did “Maryann Cotton” born? You have taken the name from the first UK serial killer so, why did you pick that name?

Well.. It was back in 2007 when I started my own band with some friends, and I remember I was looking for a band name, and I searched in books and around on the Internet, and suddenly I saw the name »Maryann cotton», which I thought sounded great. Then I took the name for the band, but when we were playing our live shows, it was always me who was mentioned and it got quickly related to me, and you know I have always looked up to the phenomenon of Shock Rock such as Alice Cooper, King Diamond, Kiss, and Marilyn Manson, so I thought, ”Okay.. I wanna create a new generation of »Shock Rock», and call myself MARYANN COTTON…»

– In fact it seems like you have created a character, as artists like Alice Cooper did. And this being said, your voice reminds me to Alice’s; is he a vocal influence for you?

Thank you.. Yes, definitely ! Back when I was 3 or 4 years old, i remember I saw Alice Cooper perform live on one of my dad’s old VHS video tapes, it was on his Billion Dollar Babies tour that he did back in 1973, and that was really the biggest thing that I ever had seen!! I understood the whole thing you know, his vocal performance, the way moved on the stage, just everything he did. So Alice has not only been an inspiration for my voice, but has certainly been a big part of my life !

– And in general, what are your main musical inspirations?

I’m inspired of many things, from Elvis Presley, to King Diamond. But my main inspiration is and will always be Alice Cooper and The Alice Cooper Group, what they did back in the 70s, in collaboration with producer Bob Ezrin was exceptionally !!

– Your debut album, “Free Falling Angels” came out just a few weeks ago; how is its feedback being? Are you satisfied with the final output?

Yes, I’m so proud of the final result, I have already received the first numbers for how much it has sold in Germany, and I must say that I’m really surprised, I get the rest of the worldwide numbers in January, so I’m a little excited. But the general response has been fantastic, I receive messages every day, from people who likes the album, and I’m really happy about that, and I appreciate it.. Really!

– We could say you have an all-star line-up, with members as your father Hal Patino or Snowy Shaw just to name a few. How did you get to play with all of them? Do you think this makes you get more exposure?

Of course it’s always good to be surrounded by some good and professional people, but it’s ultimately up to myself, I’m the only one who can keep this thing rolling, because you can’t live high on whether you know some nice people, you will definitely need to come up with something that is 100% yourself! Even if people like it or not!

– The album is just a pure Rock record but it also contains some nice orchestral arrangements. Did you have clear since the beginning how did you want this CD to sound like?

You know I’ve had an idea from the beginning about how it should sound, but things has been changed many times and arranged, just take a song as ”Maryann” the last song of the album, that’s really one of those songs that has been changed 500 times until the right feeling was there, you know all the orchestra arrangements, and generally just to make the story to shine throughout the song! So there will always be some changes, and things will take some new directions But again I’m very proud of the final result !

– It also has a certain “old school” vibe, even a nice rough production, but it also has a fresh feeling. Was this something you wanted to get?

Yes, absolutely.. I think we have a very personal and unique sound, and the album is a very acoustic album combined with a modern production. We have not tried to compare our sound with any other bands out there. So the sound you hear on the album is 100% real, and the music is played straight from the heart, and as we wanted it sound!

– What do some of the lyrics on this opus deal with?

It deals with a lot of those things that are up today, you know, Drugs, Death, Sex, Money. It also says a lot about, be who you are, and be proud of it, and always stay true to yourself! But I’m not trying to send any messages out,but I think that there’s a lot of people who can relate to the lyrics in a way.. You know songs like »Crazy» – »The One» – Never»Waste»Land, and so on. Which I think is a cool thing!

– And all this being said; how could you describe “Free Falling Angels» in 3 words?

ROCK’ N ROLL ! Ha ha

– You have filmed a video for “Die in Britain”, how was the shooting like? And do you plan any other clips off this effort?

The Die In Britain video shoot was actually pretty cool, it’s directed by a Danish film company Rise Film, and was recorded in my home town, where i grew up back when I was a kid. We have actually just talked about shooting a new video, I don’t know right now if it’ll happen, but let’s see..

– And finally, what are your near-future plans?

Well we’re organising a lot of things, and we’re working on doing some shows in the end of this year, or early 2013… And there’s a lot of other things going on right now. I can say everything looks very promising !

– That has been everything from my side, thanks you once more. If you want to add some final words; last lines are all yours.

Anytime ! Hold on Spain, we will come and take your virginity soon !
