CURSED 13

1- Hello, thanks for answering to our questions. What are you guys currently up to?

Greetings! We are eagerly awaiting the release of the debut Cursed 13 full length album called Triumf. Other than that it is business as usual with composing music, reading literature and whatnot.

2- First off, could you make some history of the band?

It is a long story but not to bore you I’ll give you the brief version. Cursed 13 started up back in the late 90’s by me and containing only me for several years. As I was occupied with other constellations, everything boiled slowly in the background. Demo’s were made and sold through the years but it wasn’t until 2009 when things started to seriously happen when we released the Cursed 13/Domgård split album. By then I had increased the line up by 100%. We were now two persons in the band. Cursed 13 grew into a full size band in 2012 when we decided to enter the stage at the Forlorn Fest in northern Sweden and this year we harvest the result of a long journey with the album finally out.

3- How could you describe your sound?

Many have tried and failed to put us in some specific folder. The foundation consist of old school black metal but we emphasise weight and aggression instead of sheer speed. Cursed 13 is a heavy loaded train that is bursting its way into the abyss.

4- What are the band’s main musical influences?

Well since I grew up with early 90’s black metal and also the 80’s bands I must say that the primary influence comes from there. Still, I listen to a variety of different genres which of course colour the way I write the music.

5- How is the feedback for your new album being?

We don’t know yet, it will be released within days. Those who had the chance to have a pre-listen have praised it though.

6- And are your personally satisfied with the final outcome?

Yes, absolutely. We have worked so hard on this and I’ve been like a fucking dictator upon each and every detail, not to let anything slip through without 100% approval. This is my proudest moment this far as a musician. This is the best I’ve ever made. And I’m just getting warmed up…

7- How could you describe this opus in just 3 words?

Black Fucking Doom!

8- How has the production process for your new release been?

The process has been slow, we started recording early 2013 and got finished by late summer. But on the other hand, some of the songs are 15 years old so in a way you could say that it took 15 years to get this album together. We recorded most of the album at our own studio which gave us the time to get everything the way we wanted it.

9- And how do you use to work on the song writing?

On this album the song writing process has varied a lot. The oldest songs were spawned ages ago and the newest one was completed just before recording. I have written pretty much all the music and the lyrics on this album and the difference, if you compare old songs with how newer ones are written, is that Dimman has been contributing with his excellent drumming on the newer material. He makes it easy to try new ideas and riffs and he adds a flavour to the songs which wasn’t there before. If he doesn’t get great ideas, it is not a great song.
