1- Hello, thanks for answering to our questions. What are you guys currently up to?
SteiN: Hey QOS, thanks for having this interview with us.
Well, we are excited! Been working hard on this album and now it has finally arrived, can’t wait to see how it’s being received. We are pumped and ready for a kick-ass release show here in Denmark.
2- First off, could you make some history of the band?
SteiN: It’s a 5-member band all from Copenhagen. We’ve been together for over ten years with minor replacements. The band is Schou on vocals, JeZpR and I on guitars, Dag on Bass and Gøtsche on Drums. Our first album Delusion was released in 2010. 2nd album Cause and Neglect in 2013, and finally our new album MØRKE here in 2017, released on Pavement Entertainment.
JeZpR: MØRKE means darkness in Danish. The general topic in our band is the darkness of the human mind.
3- How could you describe your sound?
JeZpR: Our sound on this album is first of all melodic and atmospheric. Combined with extremely downtuned guitars we got a really satisfying sound out of it. We decided to make this record more unpolished and raw and with the collaboration with Tue Madsen (Meshuggah, The Haunted, Dagoba, Moonspell etc.) we were able to create exactly the sound we were hoping for.
4- What are the band’s main musical influences?
SteiN: We have 5 very individual tastes in music; with a bit crossover in between. From pop music to electronica to old school metal, modern metal, extreme death metal and so on. It’s actually hard to name a specific influence, but we believe that this is what makes us unique. No one tries to force each other’s style of music on any other. We all agree more or less.
5- How has the feedback for your new album been?
JeZpR: Actually, as we write this interview the album hasn’t been released yet, but from what we can understand from our record company Pavement, it’s highly accepted in the U.S. already.
We just hope that it will be the general reception everywhere.
6- And are you personally satisfied with the final outcome?
SteiN: Indeed we are. We have grown since our last album and we’ve got much more feeling involved in this record. We have landed in a place we feel is right for us at the moment.
The whole sound and atmosphere just gives us goosebumps. We are very proud of the outcome.
7- How could you describe this opus in just 3 words?
SteiN: As for the bandmembers: Respect, friendship and fun.
As for the record: Deep, serious and rewarding.
8- How was the production process for your new release?
SteiN: We have our rehearsal studio in an old wartime bunker and we do all of our recordings there – except for drums. The room has awful acoustics so we recorded the drums at Tue’s crib. All other recordings were done by ourselves and later mixed by Tue.
We really like this process because we are not bound to economics and don’t have to rush if we feel that something´s wrong. It really gives us freedom to make the right decisions without having our bank man breathing down our necks. It´s the perfect environment for spawning creativity.
9- And how does the songwriting process work?
JeZpR: It usually starts with some drums being programmed. Then we try all kinds of different guitars to see what fits best. After we’ve come up with something we feel sounds right the vocals are being tried out. If we are on to something we do some pre-recordings, and that usually ends up with a song.
10 – Finally, what are you near-future plans?
SteiN: Enjoying our new baby, touring and writing new stuff. Can’t wait to get on the road to present our music.
11- That’s all from our side, thanks again for taking your time to answer our questions. If you now want to add some final words; feel free to do it.
JeZpR: Thank you, it was a pleasure.
SteiN: Please support the hard working bands out there, buy their stuff, spread the word, like some facebook pages, watch their videos and enjoy some cool music.
