1- Hello, thanks for answering to our questions. What are you guys currently up to?

Hey! I’m Alexey Markov, and we’re Shadow Host, a thrash/power metal band from Russia. We’ve just released our 5th album called «Apocalyptic Symphony».

2- First off, could you make some history of the band?

Shadow Host was formed in 1993 by our guitarist Alexey Arzamazov (the only founding member at the moment). After the 2nd release, “Neverland”, an important event occurred – the band performed in Luzhniki arena as the opening act for our idols, Blind Guardian. Our 4th album, titled “Bringer Of Revenge”, was even faster and more aggressive, and became a type of melodic thrash metal. Soon after the release of this album, I took the position behind the microphone and the band started out on a tour and played several significant concerts, including as the support for Annihilator and Overkill.

3- How could you describe your sound?

Musically we’re kind of similar to Pyramaze, Persuader, Dark Empire and Iced Earth. But hopefully our sound will remind you of Kreator, Testament and Annihilator.

4- What are the band’s main musical influences?

We are true fans of thrash and speed metal. Testament, Heathen, Forbidden, Artillery, and of course, Blind Guardian.

5- How is the feedback for your new album being?

Easy: everybody loves it. It’s really great and we look forward to more good reviews!

6- And are your personally satisfied with the final outcome?

Very. The album turned out to be heavy, very speedy and melodic and the same time. We love how all the songs turned out. The production is at the highest level we could get here in Moscow. Basically it’s a masterpiece! :)) Ehehehe j/k. No, really, we love every single song. I personally listen to the album quite

often.

7- How could you describe this opus in just 3 words?

Heavy, fast, melodic.

8- How has the production process for your new release been?

The meterial was written in about 7 months, then we began rehearsing it and tweaking the songs. I then started to write the lyrics. Then in August 2013 we went to the CosmosStudio in Moscow, and recorded everything in about 30 days – our longest studio session so far. We didn’t use any drum samples or re-amping – and the albums sounds very energetic and lively because of it. We used classic Peavey 5150 amps for our guitar sound to get this oldschool thrashy feel.

9- And how do you use to work on the songwriting?

The biggest part of all music was written by Alexey Arzamazov. He usually sends us a GuitarPro file to learn the riffs and then we get together and see what happens. It’s interesting that the songs on the album were recorded in the order they were actually written. One song – Guardians of the Wretched – was writted especially to fit the (great!) lyrics I wrote, and for all other songs the music was written first.

10 – Finally, what are you near-future plans?

A video or maybe even two – definitely. Then we have a few cover songs almost ready to be released. We really want to go on tour – we’re looking for promoters right now.

11- That’s all from our side, thanks again for taking your time to answer our questions. If you now want to add some final words; feel free to do it.

Thanks for your questions! Stay metal! Hail to old and new thrash metal maniacs!
