– Hello, thans for taking the time. To start, why «The Black Dahlia Murder» and not any other?

Uhh, Its a cool name. Not sure if your askin why we picked the band name. The Black Dahlia Murder was a pretty brutal unsolved murder in the states in the 1940s…..pretty heinous stuff.

– Soon your new «Ritual» will come out. It’s not a concept album, but all it’s songs cover some concrete topics. Could you please shed some light on this?

All of the songs on the album sort of represent some sort of Ritual. Things such as killing, smoking weed, halloween , etc. Seemed like a pretty cool way to theme an album.

– And how did you come up with «Ritual» as it’s title? What does it mean to you and how much strong is it’s link to the content in «Ritual»?

We named it Ritual because in a way the band is our ritual. We play live shows and have sort of a ritual with our fans when they all come and rage out while we provide ultimate rager music. All of the songs on the album are tied to things which are somewhat ritualistic.

– Have you done any kind of reseach to cover such subjects?

I myself have not because i dont write the lyrics, although mr Strnad did a good job with all the topics. Some of the subjects are pretty self explanatory though, such as smoking weed and commiting violent acts.

– I could say this is the most risky and different album from you guys so far. Did you want to try new things with it?

We always wanna try new ideas while keeping the bands core sound. I dont think anyone wants to constantly here an album of the same old shit rehashed over and over again. So yea we always wanna try some new things, and try to expand the sound while keeping it our own.

– And due to this, what are your expectations regarding the feedback for the album?

The feedback for the album thus far has been very very great. I dont think anyone in the band could be happier with the reaction that the album has received.

– We can find different details from diverse music styles, some instruments that are almost new for you… How did you approach the songwriting and how was this process like?

Myself (Ryan), and our other guitar player Brian pretty much sat around in our homes for 7 months demoing songs. We would send these songs back and forth to each other, while giving each other feedback. Brian wanted string sections in some of the songs from the start so he arranged those parts on guitar and then found people to play them. I programmed some piano parts and later had a person play them. I think experimenting with these different instruments really created a bigger atmosphere for some parts of the album they are featured on.

– In some tracks I noticed some kind of blend between Metal and Classical music. Is just my opinion or has Classical music influenced any of you?

I think classical music is always somewhat of a component of the bdm sound. We like to call the classical sounding parts powdered wig parts. Classical music i think in someways can be implemented into metal pretty easily because of epicness of the sound and similar harmonic contexts.

– After releasing an album like this, does THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER have any musical limits?

I think we will continue pushing the limits of the band…..always trying to expand on the sound. Id like to think the next record will see us still pushing our horizons in song writing and other progressive ideas.

– And finally, what are your near-future plans?

Tour, tour, and more tour. Basically gonna tour on this album as much as possible, and really try to earn some new fans.

– That’s all, thanks once again for your time. Feel free to add some final words to the interview.

Thank you for the interview!, and everone please pickup Ritual if you havent already!!!
