– Hello, thanks for your time. What’s currently keeping ORIGIN busy?

We just returned from our North America & Canadian tour (june 14-July 22) & we are playing Puerto Rico tomorrow (Aug 6).

– Your new «Entity» was released several weeks ago, hows going its feedback so far? And what are your expectations?

The feedback has been very positive in the Death Metal Community & our plan is to play it live in front of as many people in various parts of the world as possible.

– Why did you choose such title for the album? Is the sound we can find in this record the actual current ORIGIN’s sound? Your actual «entity»?

«Entity» does sound like the band we are currently. It felt appropriate so we just rolled with it & we felt it summed up the album very well.

– In my humble opinion, this is your best effort so far; more varied, dynamic, sounds more mature as well… What are your thoughts on this?

Well I think the death metal community has gotten soft so we lightened it up a little on this one so people could get into it! It has more varied time tempos & composition than the previous work. As far as studio performances it is our most solid & tight takes as musicians in this band.

– The album has an outstanding guitar work, though the whole instrumentation sounds superb. Could you say the production process has had something to do with that as well? Could you tell us a bit about it? (the producer, how did the whole process go…)

We have worked on our «tones» a lot in the last couple of years for a live setting (with help from our sound guy Anthony Columbus) & when we entered the studio Rob Rebeck spent a solid amount of time working on tones & mic selection & placement + we had a bigger recording budget & were more rehearsed!

– And what about the album’s artwork? The artist, it’s meaning, etc.

I didn’t handle that part of it. Our drummer worked with a guy. We wanted something that let’s the listener create his own interpretation.

– Your previous singer has left the band and has been replaced by Jason Keyser. How and why did all happen?

James had a different ideology of how a band works so it was time for a change. Mike & I did the vocals on the album & we wanted a frontman to be our conducter of death for our live shows!

– And what has Jason brought new to the band?

A lot more energy & fun to our live shows! Its great!

– In fact you’re the only original member remaining; how do you think has been the band’s evolution since «Origin» until know?

Playing music with other musicians is fun & you can learn a lot of new ideas for creating & composing music as well as a appreciation of the members of the past! I have changed as a person & so has my music by the influences of the people I have worked with!

– During these years there have been some different line-up changes; have they affected the band in any way?

I have been blessed with playing with some of the best extreme musicians in the world. To look at that negatively in hindsight would be absurd.

– ORIGIN has gained a worthy place into the Death Metal world but, what’s left for you to get a as band?

Music is a endless endeavor & whenever you think you have accomplished something your off to do better!

– This is about offtopic actually, but it’s a matter that hasn’t gone unnoticed for any Death Metal follower… Have you heard the latest MORBID ANGEL’s album?

I’m not gonna bash on them. They could have released a 4 song ep of the death metal tracks & they would be adored by their fans. It just seems that they have lost touch with their fanbase & should have released the techno as b-sides. I can understand being trapped in a genre but if you listen to their previous album there wasn’t a hint of techno/dubstep in the song writing.

– And finally, what can we expect from ORIGIN in a near-future? Any touring plans?

Just did North America & Canada @ the airport now doing this interview on the way to Puerto Rico. I think Asia is next with a European tour to follow!

– That has been all, thanks once more for your time. Feel free to use these last lines to add some final words.

Thanks for the interview. Follus us on www.facebook.com/origin. We will have a video for the album out soon!

Horns!
