– Hi Corey, thanks for taking the time. What are you currently up to?

Hey Tania!, Thanks for the support and thought of Fistula for an interview. Well, currently

Im at work, been a busy summer, just moved more south from where i was living in Ohio,

Trying to get the LOSER record stuff done, and the WORSHIP EP, and writing the new

Material and getting a new lineup as well as SOLLUBI, MORBID WIZARD,CHARRED AND DESPAIR,, and THE INSTRUCTOR.l There are a few things going on, but i cant comment on them until i know for sure its going thru.

– You are not too known in Spain, so I hope you won’t mind starting making some history of the band…

Fistula started around 1998, we had myself on drums, bahb on bass, this dude on guitar and

Barcus on vokills. We then went to a 3 piece where we did the majority of the touring and live gigs

And released the most early on as a 3 piece, bahb and i sang by default, it just sort of happened..We have shared the stage with some really good people and had some great times and released some great material over the years and its very

Fortunate people still give a shit. Fistula has led us to other bands and projects and over the years

The flaking and the substance abuse issues just got worse, still to this day. So i have to basically

Cut the dead weight and move on, im the only one that puts 110% into what i love, which is music

And while others think they know whats going on, at the end of the day, its all about what it means

To the individual. I have never stopped, i have found other brothers of mine along the way that will

Lend their hand and vision to Fistula and it is what it is….it takes a different shape at times

But it is still retaining that feeling it always has had. So a few shifts over the years, different record labels for different situations surrounding the time, different members,..same concept. We have always held our influences close to the tones we reflect, we played with noise bands, black metal bands, thrash bands, doom bands, rock, metal, punk, etc… we just played shows over the years with everyone we could, being pinned in a circle of elitist dipshits was never our goal.

– And why «Fistula»?

our first bass player had kidney failure and developed a fistula on his arm

From the dialysis, so it looked ugly and we sounded ugly. Kind of fit.

– You have recently released your latest EP, «Loser». First off, why such titule? Who’s that loser?

LOSER can be taken alot of different ways. Whatever or whoever you would like it to be.

– Lyrics are quite varied actually and some have some twisted humor. What do some of your lyrics deal with and what are the main inspirations behind them?

Lyrical content is basically to tell a story, either a fucked up one, or a funny one, or sad one..it varies.

– Your sound is pretty varied as well, being Sludge with some Hardcore or D-Beat influences among other so, what band/music genres have influenced your sound?

Thats tough, there are sooo many

That inspire….70s rock, heavy metal, punk, hardcore,noise, black,brown,purple,gray noise,rap,

Drone,classical,music scores,..etc.. Black Sabbath, Black Flag,DxRxIx,Misfits,CxoxCx,Slayer,

Celtic Frost,Cro-Mags,Megadeth,Coroner, Pestilence, Winter,Madonna,Crowbar,Judas Priest,Melvins,Heart,Boston,Budgie,Pentagram,Kool Keith,agoraphobic nosebleed,bastard noise,lockweld,integrity,wrathchild America,morbid angel,Obituary,Mercyful Fate,…etc….

– One song that caught my attetion (even by just seeing its title) was «I’m Glad Nate’s not in A.C.». What could you tell us about it?

Its a joke. Glad nates not in AxCx…..ok, so its not that funny…so its a lame joke…

– Nate is one of thew new band members, in fact your line-up had changed several times during your career. Do you care about having a steady line-up? And how’s going with this one so far?

Nate is one of the more current members, Yes, i do care aobut a steady lineup, but not enough to let it hold me back from doing what i feel is the way Fistula should be.. and the current lineup has

Changed again, this time we don’t have Bahb in the band. He is replaced by long time friend Mike Duncan(Black Mayonnaise) on bass, and our drummer Jeremy is gone too, now i will play drums and Jesse Kling will still do vox, ande BD Neaville from Contamination Diet will be doing samples

And noise, and Danny Bays on guitar. I hope to get a steady lineup shortly….im over this horsehsit.

– Anyway, the heart of FISTULA are yourself and Bahb; how does this affect your music? I mean, to other members have many imput in the songwriting, etc?

Bahb isn’t the heart of Fistula, its me..im not being conceited either its just the way it is… i do the majority of the writing, always have

And it sucks, because he has caused alot more bad things than good for Fistula over the years

But there was a time when we fed off each other, but all in all, it doesn’t effect the music in a bad way, but yes it does effect it.

– I read you have had some problems and detractors during these years of existence for FISTULA. Could you please shed some light on this? Has this helped you to somehow, comeback stronger?

This is a constant house cleaning for me, i believe fools when they are like “yeah bro, music is my life, its all i want to do” and then they don’t show up for jamming, they don’t contribute to writing, they don’t even have their own gear, they use my shit, then they flake on shit…..so i have to get a plan together all the time, and depending on what my close knit brothers are doing at the time, may play a roll in as to how they can be a part of it. Point is, most are fucking lame and have no heart, but you weed them out and keep mowing shit down.

– You will recently release a split with COFFINWORM. Have you already settled the release date?

Not yet, Hell Comes Home will release it, you can check with them.

– I also saw you’re already working in your next full-length album, «Northern Agression». Could you anticipate us something about it?

Writing for this right now… heaviest shit we have ever done…most aggressive we have ever sounded.

– And finally, any other future plans beside this releases? I read you will take a rest from gigs but, will you comeback to the stages after releasing your next album?

We have rested from gigs for far too long, but we are planning to get the new shit recorded and hit the road at some point in 2012.

– That’s all from my side, thank you once more. If you feel like adding some final words to the interview; feel free to do it.

Thanks for giving a shit about what Fistula is doing… the new lineup of Bing,Duncan,Bays,Kling,Neaville….and Linehan is going to bring good things,…or shitty things, i forget… also look for the next Sollubi “Burn Down the Mall” and Morbid Wizard-Lord of the Rats!!

Thanks alot@!!!

Bing.
