1 pensamiento sobre “OGRE – The Last Neanderthal

  1. English translation! Hope this isn’t too far off. note – there is one error in the original review, which mistakenly refers to the song «Shadow Earth» as «Shadow Heart.»

Even though they’re still somewhat unknown, OGRE is a band that was formed 14 years ago and already has four studio albums in their catalog. The most recent of them is the one we will review here, and it carries the name “The Last Neanderthal,” being a work of seventies Doom Metal of the North American variety. This trio knows how to create atmospheres and a musical essence that make it seem as if the decades haven’t passed at all.

From the start with “Shadow Earth,” [sic] a song that serves as an intro with different sound effects, until the final “The Hermit,” we’ll devour minutes and minutes of sounds that are heavy but that also utilize different classic rhythms that reveal subtle melodies and interesting psychedelic touches. The guitars are distinguishing elements on this disc, whether in their solos, in their dense personal riffs, or in the passages in which the acoustic guitars take the leading role. Distortion is another underlying element throughout the eight songs that make up “The Last Neanderthal,” as much in the bass as in the guitar, while the voice is the prototype of the genre during those years. The dark, penetrating, and heavy atmospheres lend power and ferocity to songs that are already very powerful on their own.

In sum, noteworthy album from a band that with “The Last Neanderthal” will awake the interest of followers of the most old school Doom Metal possible.
