MY RUIN – A Southern Revelation (Eng.)
Music is not distant to these tough times we are currently living. With many bands facing trouble to sell their albums and other personal “projects” by people recording their albums at home now fading away, the fact well-known bands as MY RUIN are releasing their new album by their own and on the net for free download, is something that can make us open our eyes to the current state of the musical industry. And is not just that MY RUIN have done this because their albums weren’t selling good and needed to gain new fans thanks to the easiest and the most straight-forward possible way but, they have done this as a middle finger to record labels and as a gift for their followers, so this way they will be able to enjoy their compositions directly from the band without any expenses.
This being said, “A Southern Revelation” is a brilliant album from start to finish. With heavy and thick riffs delivered by a rough guitar in sound terms performed by Mick Murphy, who takes guitar duties, as well as bass and drums, and the as powerful as melodic voice from singer Tairrie B. Murphy, this duet has managed to create a brilliant yet heavy record.
If MY RUIN have always been portrayed for adding new elements or new tendencies to their sound, on this “A Southern Revelation” we can hear a more melodic voice than we are used to, plus 10 tracks with more Stoner and Doom Metal elements (specially on guitars) and lyrics that are more aggressive, influenced by what the band was through with their previous record label.
We could conclude saying that MY RUIN have known how to mix this time around a more melodic approach on vocals with a heavier, more slow and heavy guitar work which, mixed with their usual music style, has created a perfect combination that makes out of this “A Southern Revelation”, their most complete effort to date (to my eyes, of course).
