ARTÍCULO: ENOUGH. WE’RE DONE BEING OBJECTIFIED

0

We’re here, once again, calling out the disgusting, outdated, and frankly sickening behavior that some people still think is acceptable in the metal scene. This time, the culprit is Forgotten Wisdom Productions—a label and distro known for its far-right connections and owned by a guy who thinks racist and sexist comments are just casual conversation. He took things to a whole new low recently, using his platform to harass a woman who attended Pyrenean Warriors Open Air.

In a so-called «review» of the festival, this man chose not to focus on the music but instead objectified one of the women in attendance, specifically targeting her by describing her body in detail. He said, «everyone will recognize her if I say red shorts» and went on to joke about a supposed “best ass of the festival” competition. Let’s be clear: this isn’t funny—it’s harassment. It’s part of the rape culture that persists when women are reduced to their physical appearance and turned into subjects of public scrutiny.

Why is this even happening in 2024? Because this behavior, disgusting as it is, is still condoned, laughed off, or outright ignored by too many. When women enter these spaces, they are often treated as if their bodies are fair game for comments. It starts with something seemingly harmless—a comment about shorts—but quickly escalates into full-blown objectification. This is not just «banter.» It’s an act of violence, a way of reminding women that no matter how they dress, act, or exist, they are never fully safe from scrutiny.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on how Pyrenean Warriors Open Air was initially caught up in this mess. By sharing the video on their page, they inadvertently contributed to this sexist narrative. However, it’s crucial to recognize that the festival organizers were unaware of the full scope of this man’s behavior. After the backlash, they made the decision not to renew their partnership with Forgotten Wisdom Productions—a much-needed step in the right direction. But the responsibility doesn’t stop there. We all need to be vigilant in calling out this behavior in our spaces and standing with women who are subjected to it.

And what about the comment made by the guitarist from Demon right when this woman arrived? This was harassment from the very beginning. A musician thought it was okay to immediately objectify her, and this type of conduct sets the tone for an event where women constantly have to be on guard.

We’re here to say: STOP. This shit isn’t acceptable. Commenting on a woman’s body is not a compliment—it’s a way of exerting power over her, making her feel small and reducing her to nothing more than an object. Harassment is not a joke, and when we turn a blind eye to it, we are upholding rape culture.

We need to speak up. Every time. As a community, we have a duty to call out harassment, objectification, and sexism when we see it—whether it’s from a guitarist, a label owner, or anyone else. We can’t let people get away with this just because they’re a part of the scene.

This is a line in the sand. We, as fans, as organizers, as women, and as human beings, are DONE tolerating this behavior. We need to create a space where women are respected and where sexism and misogyny are not only discouraged but actively rejected.

To Forgotten Wisdom Productions—you and your racist, sexist views can stay in the trash where they belong. To Pyrenean Warriors Open Air—thank you for listening, but this should have been handled sooner. To the community at large—we need to start holding each other accountable, speaking out, and refusing to let this slide.

We deserve better, and we won’t stop until we get it. We’re DONE with this shit.

It’s time to burn this behavior to the ground.
