– Hi, thanks for your time. What are you currently up to? How is everything doing right now with INCANTATION?

Things are real exciting right now in the band. We have the new record coming out in a few days and we are writing songs for the next one. No stops for us anytime soon.

– You have a new album coming out soon, «Vanquish In Vengeance», which will be your first album in 6 years. How are you feeling about it? After several years, is this still an exciting moment for you? And considering how have the first reactions been, what are your expectations on this new record?

I feel great about it. I like the record very much as we all do. We are all excited to get the record out and play the new songs live. Every time you create something new it is always exciting to sit back and listen and then bring it to the masses!!

– In fact you have always taken your time between releases. Could you say this has helped you creating more solid CDs?

It is just a matter of being inspired or not. Kyle left the band for a little while. So that was a factor in not doing anything. We did some touring without him. We had people like Jim Roe and Craig Smilowski filling in for tours. It was not until he came back that things seemed to make sense and then we started to get inspired to write new music. We will not put out music unless we are inspired to do so.

– This new «Vanquish In Vengeance» feels to me like a darker album, maybe this kind of sound fits better the album’s concept?

I would agree and speaking for myself I have been living in a lot of darkness in my life and they really came through in the music I wrote for the record.

– And this being said, would you mind to elaborate a bit on the main concept behind this opus?

To quote Chuck Sherwood “The concept of our world so enslaved by monotheistic dogma that only a rebirth, with nothing but distain for the previous, would be tolerated. The lyrical content is the vehicle of this ideology from modern to ancient history combined with the occult/pagan views and the rage we as a band hold for those religions and their followers who’d refuse to acknowledge their own failure. Let this vortex we offer permeate and enlighten or shun and obliterate.”

– It deals with numerous counts of genocide in the name of religion so, what’s religion for you?

No religion for me. Religion is for the blind.

– In fact I think you are getting even darker with each new release. Is this a choosen path or just a natural evolution? Anyway you have always remained true to yourself and your sound.

The world is getting worse and as we get older the truth becomes clearer and clearer. It is important to not loose yourself in this mess.

– I think INCANTATION is a band that has struggled a lot to keep on going, and throughout your years of career you’ve had several line-up changes. Due to this I would like to know how was or how uses to be like the songwriting process for INCANTATION. Is everyone involved, even the new members? Because, as I said, you have always maintained your essence intact, so I guess all of you guys may be on the same page.

Well in the past John wrote most of all in the band. Now it is a band effort. And yes that is because we are all on teh page.I have known John since he started teh band.We were always friends who shared a same vision so i think it was inevitable that we would eventually work together.

– Production-wise, I think «Vanquish in Vengeance» has more of a live bibe. If I’m not mistaken it was produced by Bill Korecky and mighty Dan Swanö, whom seems to have a great ear for Death metal, took mix and mastering duties. Have they got the sound you wanted to obtain?

Most of the record was recorded live so you are correct. And i think useing Dan was the best move we could make to bring the sound to a much higher level. I am very happy how things came out.

– On the other hand, the cover artwork was crafted by Worthless Endeavors. Could you please tell us how did you work on it and what did you want to express with the artwork? Anyway it’s obvious it shares a strong link with the album’s title/concept.

He has been a friend of mine for many years. And i have been a huge fan of his art. He is a true visionary. I knew he could reflect the darkness of this record. And i think the artwork is amazing!

– All this about «Vanquish in Vengeance»; how could you describe it in just 3 words?

Pure fucking darkness!!

– The US has always had a pretty strong, healthy and ever-growing Death Metal scene, anyway it’s not like back in the 80’s/early 90’s anymore in different ways so, how do you see the current DM scene in the US?

I think there are some good bands. Not like the early days. It will never be that good again. But always stronger and better in Europe in my opinion.

– And finally, what are your near-future plans?

We hope to get out there and start playing all the new material for all teh fans. And record teh next one sometime next year.

– That’s all, thank you once more for answering our questions. If you want to add some final words; feel free to do it.

Thank you very much for your support Cheers Alex
