-Hello, thank you so much for answering to our interview. How’s everything going in the band’s camp? What’s keeping you busy?

Hello! We are all good! Currently we are preparing for recording our first full length.

-To begin with, how was VOMITROT born? What was the purpose behind forming a band like this, firmly rooted in the early 90’s sound?

It began with me (Rotted Vomitor) and Vomitroth wanting to play some barbaric death metal together with me on guitar and him on drums. Cave Belcher quickly joined and took over the drums and Vomitroth began torturing the bass. Our goal from the start was to play primitive and putrid death metal with some doom and war metal mixed in.  We are not interested in sounding like old school death metal and that maybe didn’t come across on the demo, but will certainly be heard on our first album.

-Speaking of this, where does the tradition end and where does the mimic begin?

The only OSDM band we have tried to mimic is Incantation and not very well at that haha!  Our intention has not been to sound old school only fucking putrid.

-Your first demo came out one year after having formed the band. How were the first steps of VOMITROT until this release? The process of experimenting together to find your own sound, contacting labels, etc.

I could barely hold a guitar before starting Vomitrot and I can still only play my own songs. We had the sound in mind from the start so we didn’t have to think about that. We sent our demo to Black Cum Prod when we saw that they were looking for bands and Total Death contacted us. Both have been really great to work with!

-You play a very traditional Death/Doom style. What have been the most influential bands for VOMITROT?

Incantation, Antediluvian, Revenge, Caveman Cult, Grave Upheaval, Impetuous Ritual. I don’t agree with that we are playing a very traditional Death/Doom style. We are not trying to sound like  Asphyx, Obituary or Autopsy.

– And what things inspire you outside of music?

VOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTT

– Already the band name itself gives a hint that you lean more towards the grotesque and rotten. How do you transport this to your sound?

By being VOMIT in everything we do. Playing vomiting riffs, crushing the drums with vomit and spewing vomit.

-With your sound you create chaos, suffocation, a horrific yet asphyxiating and grotesque ambience. What do you want to inspire with your work? What images do you want to paint in the minds of the listeners?

We want invoke the feeling that your whole body is turning into vomit.

– The sound on this demo is just putrid and crushing. How was this whole process like? I guess you may have a clear vision of how your music (and the style you play) should sound.

We just put some mics up and recorded the instruments live and recorded vocals after.  The remix Tehom Production did is definitely closer than the mix we did ourself for the first version of the demo.

-Anyway, what do you think is the most important in an album of the genre? The overall feeling? The sound? The songwriting? Or is it a mix of different elements?

For sure a mix of all that. But I can’t deny that the production and sound have a big part of it. The sound lifts the riffs.

– There’s now an obvious resurrection of pretty much anything old school. Is it easier to get out there due to the growing interest or the fact that there are a lot of bands doing this makes it harder?

I think we are one of the only bands in Sweden that play this putrid death metal where the goal is to sound disgusting. But I would say that every subgenre in extreme metal has their own fanbase that will buy your stuff if you sound like other bands in that genre. We play death metal so people that like our type of death metal will probably like us.

-All this about the demo being said; how would you describe it in just 3 words?

VOMIT VOMIT VOMIT

-And what’s next for VOMITROT?

Recording our first album and hopefully some shows!

– That’s all from our side, thanks again for your time. If you’d like to add some final words, feel free to do it.

VOMIT!
