– Hello and thanks for your time. Your brand new «Redemption at the Puritan’s Hand» will be released soon. What are your expectations for it?
just to tour, travel and meet some cool people. New experiences, spread the music. Nothing more really than we have done before, just to see the band grow.

– For the album cover you have worked, once more, with Paul McCarroll. If I’m not wrong, most lyrics in the CD deal with death, how do you think the cover fits the themes we can find in «Redemption at the Puritan’s Hand» and even how fits your sound? Since I think it’s dark and beautiful at the same time, as your music has always been…
It just seems to perfectly fit. The burning hand within the skeleton represents puritanism and tempation. The skeleton death. I wanted this almost medieval wood carving feel, i think we have achieved it.

– And for all those who haven’t had the chance of hearing the album yet; what do your lyrics deal with this time?
If I had to sum this album up I would say this is the ‘death’ album. Plain and simple. There isn’t exactly a whole concept but many of the themes deal with mortality, how we deal with it. The spiritual structures we place around us to make sense of it. Sex, death, procreation and god. As we get older our relationship to our lives changes, the realization you will not live forever…it’s about our attempts to make peace with the beast inside ourselves, the search for redemption and revelation.

– Feedback for «To the Nameless Dead» was overwhelming so, did you feel any kind of pressure while creating your new CD? And have you, in any way, tried to achieve a similar sound to the one on that previous record?
Maybe a little pressure but only really about where and when to record and did we have enough time in the studio etc. As far as writing good songs are concerned we are our own biggest critics so if it gets by us I think it will turn ok for others.

– Due to this and the success that album had, some people may think you have just repeated your own formula but, what can we find new on the album?
i really don’t care what anyone thinks. The music speaks for itself and if you are stupid enough to make your mind up before you hear it then i don’t think you deserve to hear it, or anything for that matter.

– Your previous work was quite catchy and, though this new piece is still a bit so, is also way darker…
primordial always has intense harmonies and memorable songs, this has not changed. The album is a bit darker, longer and invoved but still primordial.

– This time I found some variations in the vocal range that bring a certain sinister feeling to the whole album. Is there any concrete reason for this? Did you want to try new things?
this is true. Basically i just wanted the vocals to have more time spent on them and a better production which i dont think they always have done in the past. So i had more time. Also some big influences from classic rock helped. You always learn new things.

– I read the recordings for the album weren’t that «comfortable». What can you tell us about this process?
cold and miserable mostly. I got very ill doing the vocals which didnt help. I find recording generally boring. I work in short bursts of energy.

– If I’m not wrong, Simon O’Laoghaire was out of the band for a brief period of time. What prompted him to leave and what prompted him to come back?
You have highs and lows as a human being. We’ve all had lows dealing with all the things that can happen to you being in a band and touring, travelling and festivals. Temptation, whatever you want to call it. This night was as low as we could go but we pulled the iron out of the fire, took a long hard look inside and here we are. What doesn’t kill you my friend makes you stronger o) and Simon is back playing better than ever.

– And finally, what are your near-future plans? Any chance of seeing you once more in Spain supporting «Redemption at the Puritan’s Hand» on stage? And, by the way, you came to Spain last 2010, what are your memories from our country?
yeah we came last year for the first time in 10 years, it was great to be back and we really enjoyed the two shows, thanks to our good old friend adrian from lugga music for making that happen. Who knows, we might return later in the year.
