1- Hello, thanks for answering to our questions. What are you guys currently up to?
K:Currently we are writing songs in a continuation of the sound we achieved with our material on “Passages to Lunacy” , and planning a tour with SOLANUM across The east coast of Canada and the U.S
2- First off, could you make some history of the band?
K:Epi-Demic started in 2005, Adam (guitar/Vocals) and Aaron(Drums) Began jamming together and writing songs in the tradition of DRI, early napalm death,bolt thrower, with quite a bit of punk influence. furiously played Crossover. I joined very soon after and we began writing songs that manifested on our demo “The Plague Begins” which we still play songs off of live to this day. The band actually began while Adam was underage and we were still in highschool!!!!! We played a few bar shows where our age was called into question, thankfully they were usually smoke-filled VLT shitholes so nobody really cared. Our first show junkies started to try to tear the legs off the tables. We played many shows in western Canada during the years to follow, and released a full length in 2011 entitled “Madness”. Since then we have done two West coast Canadian tours and ventured into the west coast of the USA as well.
3- How could you describe your sound?
We play an aggressive style of Crossover/Thrash Metal, It is rolling chaos, with hoarse vocals from hell and a rotten, yet very tightly played sound. We frantically play riffs in an attempt to turn the listener’s malformed skull backwards and turn their stomachs!!!
4- What are the band’s main musical influences?
Anything extremely powerful, aggressive and well executed. Bands such as Ludichrist, DRI (of course) Crumbsuckers, No Mercy,Vio-Lence Broken Bones, English Dogs, and a ton of NYHC bands such as Cro-Mags, Sick of it all, Warzone
5- How is the feedback for your new album being?
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive thus far!!!!!! We are very excited to have our music heard by a larger audience, both sides of the split are unique in sound and production, and demonstrate two bands that are continuing in the tradition of violence!!!! We had a great review from skullfracturing metal, I felt the reviewer made some unique observations. He also mentioned that Adams vocals sound very “German” which we found amusing.
6- And are your personally satisfied with the final outcome?
We are very satisfied, our previous effort “Madness”,had very polished production,and although we are pleased with it, we intentionally decided to opt for a much rawer, organic production style for our contribution to the PASSAGES TO LUNACY split with Solanum. We feel this is our strongest material to date and we are continuing to write songs in this fashion. We joined forces with Solanum with the intention of releasing an eight song split a few years ago and seeing the final product is great!!! The artwork is remarkable and I feel it captures the album perfectly, the artist was given no direction except to listen to the album in its entirety.This is our first release where I did not create the artwork myself.
7- How could you describe this opus in just 3 words?
Punishing, Painful, Chaotic
8- How has the production process for your new release been?
We recorded the album with Vol.4 productions, a close friend who brought his equipment to our jamspace in order to record this album. He instantly understood what our intentions were for the final product, and guided us there with ease. We achieved a very thick,caustic guitar sound which was of great importance to us.
9- And how do you use to work on the songwriting?
We do not set aside time and decide “time to write”, all writing is done naturally when it happens, we have played together for the last ten years and it is very natural for us to create punishing, hateful songs together. We do not believe in forcing anything creatively, therefore eliminating songs that aren’t as of good quality as others. The writing process is done as a band, all three of us contribute equally.
10 – Finally, what are you near-future plans?
To continue spreading our unique brand of aggressive, scathing Crossover!!!!!! Through CANADA AND ABROAD!!!!
