1- Hello, thanks for answering to our questions. What are you guys currently up to?

Hello! We’re just doing our thing. Unrest hasn’t really been a band for almost five years now, so this new activity is pretty cool. I’m drumming a bit, working a lot; Brooks and Steve have exciting stuff going on with their band Crypt Sermon’s new album getting wild reviews.

2- First off, could you make some history of the band?

Steve and I started Unrest way back in 2007 because we wanted to sound like Nasum. We were both big fans and bummed that they were done, so we thought we’d invoke the grindcore right of starting a band in the style of another grindcore band. We wrote and demoed for a while, Brooks joined a couple years in but we ended up just putting things on hold. Sometime early in 2010, we decided we liked the material too much to let it go, so we finished up the album, recorded, and… sat on it until 2014, when we finally tracked vocals, finished the mix, and twisted Eric at Unspeakable Axe’s arm to release it!

3- How could you describe your sound?

Grindcore, heavy on the grind and the core.

4- What are the band’s main musical influences?

Nasum, Napalm Death, Carcass, Entombed, and Dismember are the big ones.

5- How is the feedback for your new album being?

Things are just getting started, I’m not sure what anyone has heard beyond the songs that are online! We expect it to be on everyone’s EOTY list, though, so we’re just chillin’ until then.

6- And are your personally satisfied with the final outcome?

Yes. It’s been five years since we started the recording and even six months ago, we weren’t sure it was going to happen, so for it to be finished and as good as it is really feels good.

7- How could you describe this opus in just 3 words?

Sounds like Nasum.

8- How has the production process for your new release been?

We demoed each song immediately after it was written, sometimes more than once, rehearsed a shitload, critiqued our own music as much as possible. We recorded all the instruments in 2010, I did something like fifty mixes because I’m either a lunatic or terrible at mixing, then we finally recorded vocals and did a final mix/master at the end of 2014.

9- And how do you use to work on the songwriting?

Steve would come in with killer riffs, I’d suggest we change them to make them dumber, he’d try to find a happy medium, and we repeated that process for many years until we had an album. As for vocals, I’d usually write rhythms after doing an instrumental demo, figure out what we were going to be yelling about, write some lyrics, and then we’d figure out who would sound better doing each part.

10 – Finally, what are you near-future plans?

First, be stoked that people are actually going to hear this thing we’ve been keeping to ourselves for so long. Second, quit jobs, prepare to live off grindcore money. Third… maybe figure out if we can play live again.

11- That’s all from our side, thanks again for taking your time to answer our questions. If you now want to add some final words; feel free to do it.
